Her breath comes quick, more shallow as her heart starts to beat faster. They move silently, as best they can. Neither Eva nor the Gardevoir are built for stealth but she does what she can. Cod wisps of her breath curl into the night as she crouches down behind a thick tree. The Gardevoir floats to a stop, stooping low to meet her. Her bold nature turns CAUTIOUS as they approach what she assumes is an entrance to a tunnel.

“Scout ahead,” she whispers, “I don’t want any surprises.”

With a nod, the psychic-type glitches, disappearing from in front of her and into the darkness of a SHADOW SNEAK. She sucks in a breath, now alone.

No, not alone.

As the gathered Rockets obey orders, they move to make a perimeter, giving their locations away. Shit. The shuffle of feet, the snap of a twig, the quiet whispers amongst each other. She holds her breath, still as a tree she hides behind.

Another pokeball slips into her hand. A colorful array of pokeballs line her belt, each unique to the pokemon housed within. This one is dark obsidian, heavy to the touch, strong and unforgiving much like the pokemon that resides within it.

Eva will do what she can to avoid conflict herself while not risking the mission. Time for a distraction - Adele will get understand.

“Well, let the chaos ensue,” she submits to the poorly formulated plan and quietly rolls the Heavy Ball across the ground. It explodes like a grenade, casting a wide berth of white light that moves up and up and up and stretches until the enormous form of a GUZZLORD crushes the trees around them. A monstrous ROAR tears through the air imminently followed by a STOMPING TANTRUM. The untrained and unhinged Ultra Beast strikes at everything in sight, thick tentacles reaching and smacking and grabbing at the small Rocket grunts scurrying around below.

Eva patiently waits until she thinks they are preoccupied with the Guzzlord then spins around the tree to make a beeline for the tunnel.

Screams and panic painted a rather odd background for the League saint to be running from. Typically, she didn’t resort to such violence but she’d rather get out of there with herself intact than worry too much about the Rocket grunts. After all, if they couldn’t take care of themselves, should they really even be out in the field? That seems like Rocket’s fault.

Eva’s CAREFUL escape doesn’t quite go as planned. An unforeseen, to her, adversary catches her in her tracks. Adele’s FUTURE SIGHT has foreseen this and a flurry of MAGICAL LEAVES flies to intercept the feathers. But they are sturdy, sturdy as steel it seems. The strange, sharp appendages slice right through the leaves and still hit their mark - just past Eva.

THUNK THUNK THUNK

The feathers fly right past her, the wind from their momentum brushing her already wild hair. Her boots drive into the dirt, forcing her to a stop where she almost falls, scrambles, and gets back up in a crouch now facing the direction they came from.

The ever defiant and stubborn professor scowls at the shadow barking threats, “You can try!” she dares them, pushing a hand forward to send Adele between them. Fae light sparks around them, and a DAZZLING GLEAM shoots forward to cut through the trees towards the Beast. Subduing Eva wouldn’t be an easy task.

Shit.

She tries to run even faster, arms pumping, strides as long as she can make them. No matter how hard one tries, they can’t outrun ethereal psychic energy. It’s impossible to swat away or dodge and the energy courses through her like a shockwave. Her body freezes mid-stride, seizing in a way that makes her muscle ache sharply from the tension. She falls to the ground in a heap, head spinning and dizzy from the pain. She manages to call out for Adele which sounds more like a clumsy groan muffled by the dirt before she twists her head to the side to start trying to push herself back up to her knees.

The Gardevoir can sense the danger, the panic, but she finds herself too preoccupied with the Aggron to rush to Eva’s side. The momentary distraction and WORRY fulled by Eva’s fall is enough to allow the Aggron full contact. The BODY slam sends the Gardevoir slamming into the trunk of a thick tree. Paralysis threatens her tense muscles but the MISTY TERRAIN that bleeds out from her palms protects against the attack’s secondary effects.

Adele peels herself away from the tree. The cuts and bruises already peppering her white limbs slowly stitch themselves together as a result of the activated SYGNA SUIT and their shared worry. She dare not spare a glance behind her to check on Eva. They had been together long enough for the Gardevoir to know that she wasn’t helpless, even without her blessings. In fact, Adele thinks she’s stronger without them. So, she just needed the Guzzlord to continue their rampage spewing GASTRO ACID across the forest while she took care of this Aggrron. He couldn’t hit what he could see. Raising her slender arms seemed to ignite the foliage beneath them. A flurry of MAGICAL LEAVES clouds the distance between them, swirling around the Aggron like a little tornado.

Pokeball. Pokeball. She needs another one. She reaches down towards her waist, slow and sluggish as if she’s fighting some invisible current.

Almost there . . . “Gah!” she gasps at the sudden buzz of sharpened feathers slamming down in the dirt around her. A more high pitched cry screams out from between her lips when the final one slices through the arm. Adrenaline forces itself into her veins, flaring a renewed strength to her limbs and clarity to her mind. She jerks, yanking at the restraints and is forced to gasp for air when the sudden slam of mint frost’s knee knocks the air out of her lungs. Her tongue passes over her dried lips, the taste of dirt and iron. They part to let out another scream when the knife pierces her skin.

The scream echoes across the battlefield and over the roar of the frustrated Aggron and rampaging Guzzlord. Panic seizes the gardevoir, humming tightly along the string of their SYGNA SUIT’s ethereal bond. Perhaps this situation is more dire than she assumed it to be.

The Guzzlord.

Adele’s TELEPATHY seizes the dragon’s mind. Her stare forward is hard and focused. She pulls the monster back from his blind rage and directs it towards something, someone, else. With a flick of her delicate hand she casts it towards the assailant’s silhouette draped over Eva’s crumpled form.

With a wailing roar the Guzzlord launches forward at the silent command of the Gardevoir. The DRAGON RUSH stampedes through the dispersing MISTY TERRAIN directly towards mint frost to end his malevolent deeds.
